Manager’s Thoughts – Race Day Update
We have two runners today representing Ursa Major Racing, with both horses aiming to take positive steps forward in their respective campaigns.
12:10 Kelso – Ingennio
Trainer: Lizzie Quinlan
Jockey: Sean Quinlan
Ingennio heads back to the track after an unfortunate experience last time out, where he struck into himself at the first hurdle and never had the chance to show what he’s capable of. He’s been given a bit of time to recover and has been moving well again at home, which is encouraging.
Today, the plan is to be a little handier and allow him to get into a rhythm early. Confidence is key for him at this stage. If he can find the fluency that we saw in his Perth performance, we’d be hopeful of him running to at least each-way claims.
The main objective today is a safe, clean round of jumping and a step forward in his overall development. Anything more than that would be a bonus, but the horse is in a good place and we’re looking forward to seeing him back out there.
12:35 Wincanton – Marhaba The Champ (pictured below)
Trainer: Sophie Leech
Jockey: James Bowen
Marhaba The Champ lines up in what looks a competitive novice race on paper. He’s showing good signs at home and continues to progress the right way, but as with all novices, much will come down to how well the jumping holds up under race conditions.
He will receive a handicap mark after today, so this run forms an important part of the bigger plan for him. We’re simply looking for a sensible, balanced performance and to see him finish in the first half of the field, if everything falls right.
Paul Nicholls is strongly represented here with the two market leaders, so we know the calibre of the opposition. But our focus remains on development — a safe run and continued education.
Final Thoughts
As always, the priority is for both horses and jockeys to come home safely. If we can build confidence and take clear steps forward with each horse, then today will be a productive day for the yard.
Good luck to everyone attending Kelso and Wincanton, and to those watching from home — your support is always appreciated.
We’ll have updates across our socials throughout the day.
